5 Telecommuting Work Opportunities That Require Little Training

telecommuting work

Recently, I helped a friend look for telecommuting work. She had recently lost her job managing at a hotel. I helped her re-write her resume and look for online work.

She now works as an online telemarketer and customer service specialist. Not her dream job, but it is better than nothing. She is now works 10-hour plus days at home.

Telecommuting Work

As a telecommuter, you can make at least $18,000 annually with basic skills. Less, if you have no experience, but you can learn as you go along.

So, I have compiled a list of telecommuting work opportunities that you can do from home and earn extra money.

If you have ever taught before t, can write, are organized and can make appointments, or if you speak another language, you can make good money at home.

Appointment Setter

The most basic way to describe an appointment setter is to say that it is basically a pre-telemarketer position.

Appointment setters essentially call people to test out if they are interested in a product or service.

Then they set up a follow-up appointment call so that a telemarketer, or sales professional, can seal the deal.

Appointment setters are like the wingmen to the telemarketer, for an inelegant comparison. They help ease the transition to and introduction for a telemarketer.

Many businesses hire appointment setters to generate new sales leads and assess new consumer demographics. An entry level appointment setter can make anywhere between $20,000 to $40,000.

Online ESL Instructor

An online ESL teach conducts English language lessons via virtual classrooms. You can use a tablet or smart device, but a laptop would be the most optimal device to use for this job.

You’ll need a fast and reliable internet connection. Your client, the ESL school, will provide a website platform to connect you to students.

You will teach children, teens, or adults in an online one-on-one or class setting. There are many American schools, colleges and universities with online ESL instructor positions.

You may make better money applying for online ESL instructor work in Asia, especially China, and Latin America. English is unto a commodity in China.

There are many companies that specialize in matching telecommuting teachers with their students. Basic pay ranges from $1,300 to $4,000 monthly.

You don’t need teaching experience for some of these companies, but it helps. Having a B.A. in English, education, or teaching helps too.

Most of these companies prefer Westerners from Canada or the United States.

Travel Writer

It helps to have experience, but that may not matter to some companies. However, having strong writing, grammar, and organizational skills will go a long way in your search for gigs.

You won’t necessarily have to write while actively traveling. For example, you could research places of note.

You may have to include a link to a product or business who sponsors your client in the article.

For example, you may have to include links to luggage, sunglasses, or camping gear in your articles.

The type of articles you write depends on your client. Or, you’ll pitch ideas.

You should keep in mind that there is a lot of competition for this kind of work. The pay is irregular. And, you’ll need to write for several clients at once, at least three or more, to make any appreciable pay.

If you snag a few jobs, you may be able to make $20,000 annually to start.

Online Transcription

There are many companies, like medical institutions, technological companies, and companies that schedule speaking engagements, that have backlogs of audio data files that need to be transcribed.

You don’t need experience, but there won’t be a lot of pay. Transcribers with experience and certifications to prove it make the most money.

These jobs are time sensitive in most cases. It can take four hours or more to transcribe one hour of audio for the average transcriber.

If you have the experience, or are willing to learn as you go along, you won’t hurt for work. You can make between $20,000 to $38,000 to start with.

Online Translator

This is one online job you’ll need training, especially in learning foreign languages. You will be translating written documents and audio files from one language into another. It is not enough to have basic fluency.

You need to have perfect written and spoken grammar. You’ll have to prove your proficiency in tests. It will also help to have certifications and/or speak several languages.

There is high demand for this position.

The most well-known gig economy translation site is Unababel. You should also search gig economy sites like Craigslist, UpWork, Indeed, and LinkedIn.

An online translator can make anywhere from $18,000 to $210,000 annually.

Good Things Take Time

Telecommuting work experience acquisition is a process that takes time to perfect. Apply for as many jobs as you can every day. Don’t expect to make a lot of money starting out.

Be open to getting certification if needed. You may be able to make a good living form home. It just won’t happen overnight.
